What Happens if I have a Problem Six Months after the Pool is Completed?

What happens if something goes wrong with your pool? We are all excited about swimming that we often don't think about being prepared. Is Shasta's 5-year warranty just a phone call away? Will a pool tech be out to my house or do I have worry about the fine print?
Shasta's built pools in Arizona since 1966. Every new pool came with the same in-house warranty team standing behind it. It's why a 5-year labor warranty and a 5-year equipment warranty mean something.
This article highlights what the warranties cover. We share what happens the day you have an issue. You can understand the difference between a Shasta built pool and the competition.

Who do you call if something goes wrong with your pool?
At Shasta, one number. Most builders hand you off. You may have to call the manufacturer for equipment or the sub who poured the deck. Shasta runs an in-house warranty division. We take the call and schedules the fix.
What happens with some pool construction warranties?
-
You have to call the equipment manufacturer for pumps, filters, heaters, and salt cells
-
Tell you call the subcontractor who did the original work
-
Route you through a third-party warranty station
How Shasta handles it
"After the pool's been done and started up, we actually have a warranty division dedicated just for that. Most of the industry — they'll have you work directly with the subcontractor or the crew that did the work to try to get it repaired... or they'll have a warranty station, which is typically a weekly pool service company that the manufacturer pays to come out. We want to be that stopgap. We want to be the one phone call they make, and we control that. We schedule it." — Skip Ast III, Director of Sales, Shasta Pools
What's the difference between a workmanship warranty and an equipment warranty?
A workmanship warranty covers the labor. The work Shasta's crew performed. An equipment warranty covers the parts. This includes the pump, filter, heater, or salt cell. The equipment warranty is backed by the manufacturer. (Go to Arizona ROC websites for more details)
What are the warranties?
-
Labor — 5 years on any work Shasta performs
-
Equipment parts — 5 years, backed by the manufacturer (Pentair, AquaStar, Raypak)
-
Labor to replace failed equipment — falls under the 5-year labor warranty
Does Arizona law require a minimum pool warranty?
Yes, the Arizona Registrar of Contractors (ROC) enforces a 2-year workmanship warranty.
What does the 2-year ROC minimum warranty cover?
- Workmanship defects in construction
- Plumbing, Electrical, and any structural installations completed
Shasta offers a 5-year labor warranty and lifetime structural coverage on the shell.
What if my pool pump breaks six months after installation?
Your pump is covered. A pump failing at six months is covered by the 5-year equipment parts warranty and the 5-year labor warranty. Shasta handles the manufacturer claim if needed and the labor to install the replacement.
-
Equipment parts warranty (runs 5 years from completion
-
Labor warranty covers the technician's time
-
No extended warranty required
Is a lifetime warranty worth anything if the builder goes out of business?
The company has to be in business to honor the warranty. This is concern with small or new pool builders. The lifetime structural warranty is a promise from Shasta. This isn't an ROC law or requirement. Shasta's been building pools in Arizona since 1966.
What should I check about the warranty for new pool construction?
-
How many years has the company been in operation?
-
Is the warranty covered by an in-house team or subcontracted out?
-
Has the company been around during different market cycles? This includes the good years and the bad years.
-
How many pools have they built?

It's such a big investment. You should feel the comfort and peace of mind that you just place one phone call. Every builder tells you what their warranty covers. Fewer tell you who to call.
