Calculating the pool volume of a rectangular pool or a round pool is fairly straightforward and relatively easy.   But an increasing number of pool owners are opting to have free form pools, which can be a bit more confusing and difficult to calculate than a more traditionally shaped pool.  Fortunately we have a pool volume calculator that will help you arrive at the most accurate answer for how much water your pool will hold regardless of your Phoenix pool design, so you can be sure that you’ll have the optimal chemical balance in your water this spring.

Step 1:  Measuring The Average Depth

This step is fairly straightforward.  As with measuring more standard Phoenix pool designs, simply take the minimum depth and the maximum depth of the pool, and then then divide the result by 2.  For example, your shallow end may be 3 feet deep and the maximum pool depth may be 8 feet.  Your calculation would appear as:

3+8 = 11

11/2 = 5.5

The average depth of your pool would be 5.5 feet.

Step 2:  Measuring the Average Width

Here’s the part that can be a bit more confusing to pool owners – finding the average widths.  To do this, you’ll need to add up all of the different widths of your free form pool, and then divide them by those amount of widths.  Let’s say that you have three widths that are 10 feet, 15 feet and 20 feet.  Your calculation should look like:

10 + 15 + 20 = 45

Since there were three widths, we divide the 45 by 3:

45/3 = 15

The average width of the pool would be 15.5 feet.

Step 3: Measuring the Length

This is the easy one – simply measure the longest part of the pool.  For this example, let’s say that it’s 40 feet.

Step 4: Finding The Volume Of Your Pool

First we start by determining the cubic feet of the pool, which is multiplying the three numbers above together:

5.5 feet x 15.5 feet x 40 feet = 3410 feet cubed
