A Guide to Pool Sizes for Your Arizona Backyard

One of the most common questions that homeowners ask themselves is how big their pool should be. And the simple answer is, as large or small as you want it to be, depending on the size of your property.

You may be thinking, “Great! I can make my backyard like 95% pool fun!” But you don’t want to rush into building as big a pool as possible. For one thing, larger pools mean more money and more maintenance. In your eagerness to get start building your dream pool in Arizona, you might be overlooking some additional factors you’ll want to take into consideration before deciding on a pool size.

Are There City or HOA Restrictions I Need to Keep in Mind?

Cities and HOAs often have their own limits and guidelines for pool sizes. Before you get started on your pool plan, make sure you consult your city’s pool regulations, and check with your HOA to see what requirements or restriction they might have.

How Will the Pool Be Used?

The best way to justify a large or lengthy pool is if you plan on swimming laps. In that case, the pool should be at least 34 feet in length.

If your pool will mostly be used for relaxing and recreation, we urge you to strongly rethink building a huge pool. Unless you plan on throwing parties with tons of guests lounging and playing in the pool, a 25-foot pool would be just fine.

What Kinds of Features and Accessories Do I Want?

In some instances, you’ll have to consider the features that you plan to add before landing on a pool size. If you plan on building a spa, then that space will obviously need to be taken into account. If you’re considering adding a rock grotto waterslide or a diving board, you’ll need to carefully plan the length and depth of your pool. What about a tanning ledge? Or a swim-up table? Your Arizona pool builder will be able to recommend the necessary pool length and depth needed to properly enjoy your desired enhancements.

What Else Do I Want on My Backyard Patio Space?

For some homeowners, having ample patio space is far more important than having huge pool. Think about the kind of backyard lifestyle you want to have. Is it just for your family? Do you like to have guests and parties? Do you want a separate spa? You’ll need to make sure you have enough space for things such as patio furniture, grills and maybe even a pergola. In fact, consider your backyard’s green space and any other items besides a pool that you may want to add later on, such as playground equipment, a trampoline, or space for a dog to run around.

As you can see, there are a lot of things to think about before deciding on what size pool to build in your Phoenix backyard.
