Pool Maintenance: A Pool Owner’s List Of New Years Resolutions

As rewarding as having your very own private backyard oasis may be, there’s no question that lot of time and effort goes into keeping that pool of yours in tip top shape – which is why many of us tend to let little tasks slide here and there.  While we may not be able to see the impact that our neglect has right away, over time, it’ll definitely start to show.  We’ve compiled a list of New Years resolutions that we’re sure most pool owners can certainly take to heart:

Check Your Pool’s Chemistry AT LEAST Once A Week

It only takes a few seconds, which is likely the reason why we pool owners sometimes aren’t checking our water chemistry as often as we should.  During the summer time when the pool is in high usage, the water needs to be checked 3 times a week, if not more.  And don’t think that all because you’ve “closed” your pool for the winter that you can get away with not checking the water.  You should still be getting out there once a week to make sure that your water is healthy and killing off that nasty algae and bacteria that will otherwise build up

Fix Cracks, No Matter How Small

Even the tiniest of cracks in your deck and around the pool can spell d-i-s-a-s-t-e-r for you.  Small cracks can be taken care of with a small bead of clear silicon.  For larger cracks, definitely give a pool construction and repair company a call for further guidance.

Don’t Forget To Clean The Filters!

For most homeowners, the filters of the pool only need to be cleaned every 4 to 6 months, which is why many of us tend to simply forget this seldom performed task.  If marking the dates down on a calendar doesn’t work for you, try to align cleaning out the filters with something else that you may do twice a year, such as going to the dentist, or with notable events such as Christmas and when the kids are out of school on summer vacation.
